College Student Willing To Sell Her Virginity To Pay Off Student Loan Debt

Ever since hearing about this story I’ve had all sorts of opinions about it. Funny, shock wasn’t one of them.

In September 2008, a California Sacramento State graduate, Natalie Dylan, wanted to auction off her virginity at the Bunny Ranch to help pay for graduate school.

The 21 or 22 year old, there appears to be some confusion, got the idea after hearing about a Peruvian woman who wanted to sell access to her netherworld and was reportedly going to earn more than one million dollars. Okay, they were Canadian dollars but these day they are probably worth more than a good old U.S. dollar.

“I don’t think auctioning my virginity will solve all my problems,” she told celebrity television show The Insider on Wednesday. “But it will create some financial stability. I’m ready for the controversy, I know it will come along. I’m ready to do this.”

“We live in a capitalist society. Why shouldn’t I be allowed to capitalize on my virginity?” she added.

The woman, who has earned a bachelor degree in women’s studies and now wants to start a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy, is hoping the bidding will hit $1 million.”

An 18 year old in England sold her virginity for cash, $20,000, to help fund pay for a physics degree at Salford University. A lesbian student, 18, attending Bristol University in England sold her virginity for £8,400.

“The winning candidate, a 44-year-old BT engineer from south London, was the highest bidder.

Miss Reid, from Dulwich, south London, said she “sobbed” after sleeping with the man.

“It was horrible … I hate the way men kiss,” she told the News of the World.

“It felt very uncomfortable but it was over quickly I suppose,” she added.

After the man left Miss Reid said she climbed onto the bed in the hotel room and “cried and cried”.

She told the newspaper she felt “obliged” to go through with her offer as he had paid so much money.”

Alright, that’s a horrible outcome but Miss Reid, you’re a lesbian. Did you honestly think that cash was going to change the way you felt about that certain appendage? I am a little concerned that she says that after the British Telephone engineer left she “climbed onto the bed”. Where was she when the transaction took place?

Now the Brits and the Yanks are not the only ones getting into this method of debt reduction for student loans and school tuition. In New Zealand it is reported that “Some female students are selling sex in Tauranga to pay off tertiary debt – with one recently making $5000 in one night.”

Apparently student prostitution has gone on in the New Zealand since the practice was decriminalised in 2003. One brothel, in need of more students for customers said “It’s a great way for the girls to pay off their loan.”

In January of this year France’s education minister promised to increase financial support after the diary of a first-year student and a book of interviews with undergrads detailed their personal experiences of prostitution.

Catherine, interviewed in the Times article said “I’ll have worked off all the debt from my first year and got a good degree through doing this,” she said, “I could be stacking shelves in Tesco for £5 an hour but I choose to have a job where you can make a lot of money in a few hours and then actually have time to do my uni work properly.”

The Times published an article citing a survey in England that found that 8% of college students earn cash through sex work.

No matter what you may feel about this it raises some interesting questions.

Does Natalie have a right to sell her asset, her virginity, to someone that places a high value on it. Is it not her body and she has power over who to give it to?
If it is legal for a woman to strip in front of you to earn money, how far away is consensually selling intercourse to raise cash for a thing that society places value on, like education.
Should Natalie not be allowed to auction off her virginity for moral reasons?
Is Natalie right when she says, “We live in a capitalist society. Why shouldn’t I be allowed to capitalize on my virginity?”
If Natalie is labeled a prostitute for selling her virginity for cash, get it in gold Natalie, is someone then considered a prostitute if they go out on a date, order the lobster and then give it up as a thank you?

So how far would you go? Would you sleep with someone if they were willing to pay off all of your debt, right now, today? Now I guess that would be the ultimate balance transfer.

Hey, but then again, many already claim they are getting screwed by your credit card company.
