Unfortunately when you choose to work with a debt settlement company if gives you no legal protection from creditors like bankruptcy does. If you are not paying the creditor at least the contractual minimum payment then the creditor can avail themselves of their legal rights and sue you and seek a judgment or wage garnishment. Alternatively, you can avail yourself of your legal rights and seek protection from your creditors under bankruptcy.
