Accounts that have been settled appear positively on credit reports when compared to bad debt, or a bankruptcy. Your credit will decline on the front end until the debts can be reduced, whereupon your credit will improve again because one of the most important factors in evaluating your credit is the “debt to income ratio”. Clients generally experience an overall improvement in their credit once the settlement process has been completed. – Source
That seems like a long stretch to believe that statement. Accounts that have been settled after a long period of payment will show they were delinquent and then charged off. Failure to pay could also result in legal action against the consumer which will be reported on the credit report as well. Credit can be easily improved after bankruptcy as well.
The statement the company makes also seems to gloss over the issues surrounding debt settlement and wage garnishment and lawsuits. Additionally, there is no mention on the FAQ page about the many advantages to bankruptcy over debt settlement. – Source
Superior Debt Services’ debt negotiation program can help you prevent the 10-year stigma of Bankruptcy and/or avoid taking yet another high-interest loan that can make your situation even worse in the long-run. By becoming debt-free in the next 12-36 months using our debt settlement program, you can achieve a more secure financial future. – Source
I found the statement above to be misleading. bankruptcy is only reported for seven years for a Chapter 13 bankruptcy and so will the bad debt resulting from falling delinquent on accounts and then settling them. Also, the statement seems to give the impression that most become debt free within 12 to 36 months, which is not the industry norm.
Become debt-free far sooner than with debt counseling or debt consolidation programs. – Source
What is missing from that statement is that debt settlement takes long to become debt free than a Chapter 7 bankruptcy and many Chapter 13 bankruptcies.
My advice, since the site is so light on giving a true representation of bankruptcy compared to debt settlement services, please click here to find a local bankruptcy attorney and talk with them before making an decision. Once you talk to a bankruptcy attorney you will then be in a better position to make an informed decision.
