If it is a government backed student loan then yes, your social security check can be garnished.

    Thank you for answering my question. It gave me another area to research. Here is more information and I would appreciate a reply asap. The student loan is through Western States LearningCorporation. It is a private nonprofit organization. It helps different organizations including government agencies. SO, The big question again is, can my SS check be garnasheed? Thank you so much. Sherry
