It sounds like you should contact the pro bono bankruptcy assistance group in your state and see if you qualify for free bankruptcy help.
Bankruptcy will end all legal obligations for these debts and allow you to move forward. Otherwise you option is to not pay and let them sue you. Without assets they would not be able to collect on it.
