The Birth of a New Urban Myth – Jailed for Debt in the U.S.
July 9, 2010
Recently we covered stories of people being jailed for debt in the U.S. Amanda did an excellent job in putting all the facts together and you can read that story here.
Well here is a recent video by a very misinformed person that makes all sorts of incorrect allegations about being jailed for debt in the U.S. Okay, the video could be dismissed as just being crazy but if you read some of the comments on the video you can see some people believe this guy.
This is how urban myths begin. They have just enough semblance to something people would believe and the truth that people buy into the myth without checking it out for themselves. It is not true.
The real story is that some people were arrested for contempt of court because they had ignored the court after losing on a judgment. They were asked to complete a court ordered financial statement and released. Read the story here and get all the REAL facts for yourself.
- This is insane.. the whole country is in debt.. always hearing them say they need another bail out for car dealerships. banks, etc.. and who is the one paying for their bailouts of course we are.. and then we become in debt and get thrown in jail.. wtf..well looks like I will arrested I am in debt due to losing my job. my home. and i’m trying to pay past due bills.. whatever happen to payment plans this don’t make sense.. - Boycott the stores!!!! Only buy what you REALLY need! that will show them where it hurts the most- sales! They don’t treat customers right, give them what they deserve- NOTHING!
- Can you say Fema camp? The time really is near. I say by October 2010 we should have a much clearer picture of what “they” have in store for us. GAZA / BP OIL SPILL / US DOLLAR CRASH / STOCK MARKET CRASH / UNEMPLOYMENT / AFGHANISTAN and some way out crazy announcement soon from Barry Sotero. We are headed towards Martial Law folks! It will start with the Gulf. America is pretty much done. It is basically just a slow death.
