I worked in the US for 5 years on h1b visa and maintained a healthy credit rating during those years.Due to sudden turn of events i lost my job and had to relocate back to india with lot of credit card debt still hanging on my head. I have all the intentions of paying back and clearing it all but its been 3 years now and i havent heard back from any collection agencies or debtors
Is there a way i could find out and negotiate the debt? I also plan to come back to usa to work. will this hamper my chances of getting in and make life difficult with the immigration authorities.
2)How could I just talk to one agency in order to negotiate and settle my old debts and come clear
3)Even i pay off how long will it reflect in my credit file
Thanks in anticipation.
It will not hamper your ability to return but once you do your wages could be garnished if they catch up with you again.
Once you are able to enter into payment arrangements with your creditors then I’d contact them. Until then there is really nothing you can do.
If you want to look at your possible solutions for dealing with the debt you can use the free How to Get Out of Debt Calculator to review your options.
