The Credit Repair Company Seems Out of Control

A Craigslist ad came to my attention for a credit repair company called “The Credit Repair Company.” It appears that someone is running an advertisement claiming:

“WE HAVE BEEN HELPING OTHERS ALL THROU THE UNITED STATES WITH THE BAD CREDIT ISSUES SINCE 1995 WE HAVE AN A+ RATING WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU WE CAN HAVE REMOVED JUDGEMENTS, BANKRUPTCIES,CHILD SUPPORT, TAX LIENS, LATE PAYMENTS, COLLECTIONS, CHARGE OFFS, STUDENT LOANS REPOSSESIONS, FORECLOSURES, ETC.

SIGN UP TODAY WITH ONLY 39.95 AND WE WILL WAVE THE DOWN PAYMENT FEE OF 150.00″ – Source

The ad lists the same telephone number associated with The Credit Repair Company that operates out of Florida. – Source

What is a Consumer to Do?

If someone saw the ad for this company they would think they might have found a great deal to remove bad credit from their credit report. But not so fast.

The company seems to be promoting advanced fee credit repair which is not permitted under the Credit Repair Organizations Act. And a quick check in Florida show a company called The Credit Repair Co is not authorized to conduct business.

The State of Florida says The Credit Repair Co. was administratively terminated for not filing an annual report and since September 23, 2011 the company is not authorized to conduct business. The president for this company is listed as Haskell Mackowski and located at 6350 NW 201st, Miami, Florida, 33015.

Despite the claims made in the ad and Facebook posts, I’ve been unable to verify if this company has an A+ BBB rating as they claim.

Problems all around for sure.

The bad spelling and grammar in that ad should have been a flaming red flag that something was very wrong. Nobody who graduated from an American high school should have been taken in by this bogus bum steer. Uh, just waive them goodbye!

Great advice!  It is all too common to see consumers who started with companies like this only to discover (sometimes months down the road) that the company did not really exist or had closed up shop and vaporized.  And as Charles commented, sometimes the warning signs can be obvious but our mind won’t allow us to see them when we are desperate for help.  It is so critically important to do homework before engaging a company.  Sometimes even a simple Google search is enough to determine a rotten egg.

LOL, they might also want to look up how to spell “judgment.” :-)
