I’m Very Unhappy With American Web Loan. – Wendy

“Dear Jon,

In was approved for a loan with American Web loan and I must admit now that I think about I remember hearing “Buyer beware”. I didn’t research or look at the terms. It was a difficult time I had to pay the taxes on my parents home. Well five payments later. I’m trying to get out of this. Determined to pay this off I arranged a partial payment with the company of $300.00. They in turn sent $400.00, the original loan amount to my account saying it was a mistake. This overdrew my account. The bank has put a stop payment.

I spoke to a rep from the company who told me to fax everything over to them and I have heard nothing from then I did this on Friday. I think they want to charge me another $120.00, they are a scam. I plan to write the letters but trying to locate a mailing address it is not listed on there website as most companies are.

How do I still send the information to them registerd mail. I’m looking on-line. I really don’t feel like I’m getting any satisfaction from them.

The Answer

Wendy,

Have you emailed their customer service and asked for a physical address? You stated a rep told you to fax something to them, what was the fax number?

From the fax number you can possibly determine the area code and state the company may have an office in. They state their customer service is available in CST, central time, so that may give an indication as well.

Also, what state are you in?

My research showed this company many not be legal to operate or lend in all states.

You will find this on their web site:

Please be advised that you are accepting the terms of your loan subject to the Otoe-Missouria Tribe American Web Loan Act and under the authority of the Finance Services Regulatory Commission established under the Act.

Some payday loan companies are affiliating themselves with Native American Tribes to sort of get around some states payday loan laws. Say that three (3) times:)

You may want to confirm with your bank that no more payments or money will be sent to them, just to insure no more overdrafts.

If you cannot get any satisfaction in speaking with them, you can look to the FTC and possibly your state’s Attorney General’s office as well for advice.

Let me know how you get on, and I’ll research a bit more myself.

Thanks so much for responding to me. I am in Hollywood, Florida. I was in difficult situation at the time. I have never accepted a loan from an on-line company. All I can say is you have to be very careful and I would never do it again. I think I'd rather sit down with someone face to face. You were very helpful and I have your comments on the Facebook page. Thanks much!!!
