Will Debt Collectors Chase Me to India for My UK Debt? – Zampya

“Dear Jon,

I left uk in emergency. Now in India. Had 2 iPad and 2 phone contacts in uk. Taken recently. Trying for fresh visa which I am not getting and not enough money to pay off the contarct with 3. What should I do.? I have decided not to come back to uk again. But may come as a visitor if required in future. What to do?

Did 3 chase me in India or debt collection companies will come after me in India?

The Answer

Do you have any other debts or accounts in the UK aside from those you mentioned?

How much in total do those accounts add up to?

The odds of the accounts being sold to a collection company in India are slim, not impossible, but depending on the amount(s) owed and the companies, I would think it is doubtful they would be sold on.

As for returning to the UK as a visitor or even obtaining a new Visa to return, you should be fine. Leaving debts behind in the UK to my knowledge is not an issue in obtaining a Visa or just coming here as a tourist for a visit. Debt(s) alone, will not stop you from returning.
