I Moved to the UK From Canada But Left Debt Behind. – Anna

I moved to the uk from Canada to work. lived there for nine years. year and half ago dad died suddenly and moved back to Canada to help support mom.

I want to go back to the uk to just visit friends for two weeks. when I arrive is there any chance custome/immigration will stop me from entering and arrest me or force me to pay the debt?

The Answer

Just a few questions to help clarify your circumstance:

I am assuming you left debt(s) behind in the UK?

How much debt did you have in the UK?

Have you had any contact at all with or from the banks/creditors you owe?

Are you in a position to make payments on the accounts, or have you made any payments since leaving the UK?

Did you own any property in the UK?

The answers to the above questions will aid me in finding a solution for you as to what you can do with the debts.

I understand your concerns about returning to the UK and being stopped, but this will not happen just for owing debts here. You will not be denied entry or be stopped or have any problems just for leaving debts in the UK. So no worries there.
