I Got a Sort of High Pressure Call to Enroll With The Law Offices of Paul Herman. – Sue

“Dear Steve,

On January 28, 2013, I received a telephone call from a Nicholas Paul and his conversation was concerning my outstanding debts.

He sort of used high pressure tactics to get me to enroll with a program with the Herman Law Firm to help negotiate terms with my creditors to clear my debts.

However, later on upon further research and communication with this law office, the monthly fee that would be debited to my account twice a month amounting to $13,500.00, would not be used from paying my creditors but instead would be a legal fee paid to the law firm I suppose to remove these debts. Do you have any background information regarding this company? Thank You!

Dear Sue,

You can read past stories that included Paul Herman on this site by clicking this link.

The Federal Trade Commission passed regulations a few years ago outlawing advanced fee debt relief services under the Telemarketing Sales Rules. Attorneys feel they have an exemption from those rules.

Great response Steve. Also know that all attorneys are regulated by their particular state bar. The state bar is a good place to go when you think an attorney has acted unethically or has inappropriately solicited business. I’m licensed in California and our rules regarding solicitation are tight and intended to protect the integrity of the profession (what remains I guess). Feel free to contact the Florida state bar and let them know about your experience. You aren’t the only one.
