“Dear Steve,

I’m 18 and went through a lot trying to make it possible for me to go to college I couldn’t save up the money to go so I got credit cards to pay for it because I didn’t even think about getting a loan now I’m in $9,000 worth of debt and am paying all my money to it and never getting anywhere.

My cards are cut up but I’m tired of never having money to do the normal things 18 year olds do I’m in over my head and don’t have the money to pay a debt consulting company

I need help to get rid of $9,000 worth of debt is there any stimulus package or grants available for people in debt?

Julie”

Dear Julie,

If new legislation proposed in congress actually passes, people under 21 won’t be allowed to get credit cards. Personally, I think that’s a mistake.

If you contacted a debt management or credit counseling company for help the monthly payment would be around $180 a month. If you can’t afford to pay something around that amount to work your way out of debt then the answer is probably bankruptcy.

There are no government grants or free money to bail yourself out of debt.

Big hug.
