“Dear Steve,

I’m 19 years hold i have a part-time job which they are cutting hours on,and im getting ready to start college in september im a little over 3000.000 dollars in debt.

I just dont know what to do, any advice?

Elle”

The Answer:

Dear Elle,

I’ll have to go with, pay it?

I don’t know what this debt is from but maybe the reality is that you can’t afford to start school right now. Maybe you need to find more hours and income to repay this debt so you can start college debt free.

If you are taking out student loans to pay for school, you are going to graduate with enough debt from that alone.

Outside of putting your education on hold so you can repay your debt, you should probably go talk to a bankruptcy lawyer and see if bankruptcy is right for you. That is another way to address the debt situation.

One thing is for certain, something in this equation is going to have to change. It’s either going to be more income or less expenses in order to put that debt to rest so you can focus on getting the most value you can out of school
