I was hoping you'd get a comment from Kim, because I'm still nervous. I've seen several questions on your website about people getting sued by a credit card company after they signed up with a debt settlement program. It's hard for me to figure this out since I'm dealing with a law firm and not with the credit card company. I did speak with a bankruptcy attorney last year, and they work out the same sort of repayment plan as MMI does. I can make the MMI payments. I just don't want AmEx to haul out the big guns if I walk away from dealing with the collections law firm they hired. I don't think I'm going to get an honest answer from the law firm, because of course they want to solve the situation for their own benefit.

Is a credit card company less likely to take someone to court if signing up with a debt management repayment program rather than a debt settlement program?

Hello Shelley,

My name is Kim and I am the community manager for MMI. I would love to directly answer your question; however, I do not have access to your confidential account information. Please understand that your program is unique to you and is based on your specific situation. That being said, I will try to address your question in general terms.

Steve is correct in explaining that a Debt Management Plan is a voluntary agreement between the creditor, consumer, and counseling agency. MMI has a long standing relationships with thousands of creditors and the ability to negotiate effectively with new creditors. I encourage you to contact a support counselor at 866-889-9347. If necessary, a support counselor can attempt to contact your creditor to determine the disposition of the account. Counselors are available to help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Steve, I appreciate the opportunity to comment.
