If you are already three months behind on the car payment, your credit report is already messed up. No need to worry avoiding that now.
The best way to get caught up is going to be some negotiated solution with the car lender. Call the lender, explain your situation and ask what options are available.
However, call quickly, people that are three months late often find their car has been snatched back by the repo man without notice.
Good luck with the upcoming new baby and with working something out with the lender.
