My question is that i need help. I am based in Dubai and without a job since over 3 months and was the only bread earner of my family way back in Mumbai, India. I am in debts since had taken a loan and credit cards. It is around 1,10,000 AED but dont know how much in dollars and now due to non payment I have got a police case due to non payment and need help and advice.

Dear Abhu,

You don’t need me, you need a lawyer in the UAE to advise you in this matter. The consequences are very serious and you can easily wind up in jail unless you can find a legal remedy to this situation.

    My brother was in uae and he came back to india one year before. He had a credit card debt of 8000 AED. Now he would like to get a PCC for Canada. What happens if he applied for the PCC? Will there be any legal actions or will they deny the application for PCC?

      The only issue I remember was someone that needed a statement from the UAE that there were no legal actions against them in the UAE when applying for citizenship in Canada.

    i have 2,200 dirhams. my lone amount is 21,000. my balance is 2,200 only it is possible to file case by the bank against to me if i delay in 2 months for the amount 2,200 only. bacause some personal problem for delaying the payment. please give me advice

    Hi, I had a small CC debt (about AED 8000) with Amex. They filed a police case back in Oct 2009 against me as the security cheque given to them bounced. I have now (7/13) cleared all their dues till date and handed over my cards to them. They have also given me a “release letter” and advised to go to a police stn in bur dubai area to show the letter and remove the case filed on me. but i am a but worried if they would still put be in as the case was filed over a year back?? however, i renewed my uae residency back in jan 2011 without any issues! pls advise.

    hi. im in the same situation. some of the banks collection or legal calling me and want me to pay the full amount in one shot, but it’s quiet big amount for me. i keep telling them to make it more lesser but they insist for that amount. mr. ashboss, i just wanted to talk to you to get some ideas how to face this collection…thanks.

    which bank? for credit card ..don’t pay more than 30%.. if u caught by police this is what the would ask u to… if ur not ready to pay even 30% they may make it maximum 20% (that is upon Judge) for my 75000 dhrs which i actually owed .. i paid 17500 full n final settlement i got the slip as well ..!!

    I have 2 police case and was not able to renew my visa. I tried to communicate with the 2 banks but it was depressing and hopeless. To release the police case, I need to settle the 1st card in full and the other card 6850 cash payment and 1 cheque for guarantee and 3 payments for the remaining balance. The banks collector here in Dubai are very rude and unhelpful. Now, my options are to pay or I will not get the visa renewal. aira

        How did you manage to get such a huge discount? Did you have to get jailed before the bank offered this discount?

        may we know to which bank you have settled your dues that you got very huge discount of your debt.

        because i have the same problem for my dubai bank and dubai first, maybe you can help me, kindly give me the right contact person to call to settle my dues with the two banks with the same discount that you got.

    My brother was here in UAE since 2002 and had a Mashreq Bank Credit Card, he left UAE in 2006 to work in U K while leaving he paid 3500AED of his total outstanding with the bank. last month a legal notice was sent to my home in Manipur India for an outstanding of 59000AED(fifty Nine thousand AED), i though maybe my brother was lying to us for his debts. I contact my friend in Dubai who checked with the bank for the actual due amount is only 2300AED two thousand Three Hundred only. They said he need to pay minimum 16000AED to get settlement. My brother confirmed his credit limit was 6000AED. he instructed me if they accept 2300AED pay and settle or dont pay even a single dirham…I cant understand how much this bank is charging interest and how can they ask for such nonsense amounts.

    Your case will be base on which bank had filed a case against you and how much was the amount and how many cases. You may pay monthly depending on the court decision.

    This is Venkatasamy Rajagopal from India, working in xxxxx, I have credit card account with Barclay bank, my card number xxxxxx, I took AED 12,392+6700, (which is including interest and late payment fine) Total AED 19,092 (Cash+ purchase) from Barclay card, I got the transfer to Qatar from my company, for that I plan to make settlement from bank for my credit card, I went to the bank and ask for settlement they given this (AED 19,092) amount to pay, the same amount has been agreed by both party on 05th May 2009, bank provide a option for payment can be make maximum in 6 month instalment, monthly instalment AED 3,182.00 (EMI), I provide 1cash through UAE Exchange+ 5 mashreq bank cheque (# 51,52, 53, 54 & 55) on the same day, bank agreed and they have receive my cash, cheque and they have no objection also, I return my card with a bank settlement form to the bank on same day, upon bank agree to provide settlement letter within 3 working days, after that I went to Qatar on 7th May 2009 for my business, then after 2 month I receive my bank statement from Dubai office after my request, I found still I have AED 20,995.00 outstanding payment and I receive Demand notice from Bank, which was no one can’t accept, in further I make several calls and message to the customer care and collection department, there was no proper response/reply from the bank, after review and inquiry from mashreq bank account statement, I found my 2 cheques (# 51 & 55) was return due to my signature problem out of 5nos cheque, there was no notification from the Barclay bank, I stop my making payment due to double interest and late payment fine, I sign all the cheque on the same date and time, but I don’t know why my first & last cheque only having signature problem, remaining 3 nos cheque has been approved by the bank, in the mean time bank send some local person (Mr. Murali from India) to my home in karaikudi, tamilnadu, India and they give warning to my father, there was no proper coordination or reply/response from the bank, for that myself and my family mentally disappointed and I can’t work and sleep well, I am willing to make settlement from the bank, but bank want to make more business with me, I belief a God and I don’t want to eat any others money, that’s why I am asking help from any buddy to get settlement from the bank, I am ready to pay, I can pay that return cheque amount at any time(AED 3182+3182), I don’t want to blame anyone, just I want to make settle from the Barclay bank.
