And that is often followed by a look from the person that says I don't know what I'm talking about. These debt relief scams sound so plausible and logical that people get hooked into believing them. Another version of this scam is the "novation" scam where a company "assumes" your debt so that supposedly if the creditor wants to sue you, they have to sue the company that took over your debt. Unfortunately, debt is not illegal and companies that promise to wipe it out - other than bankruptcy firms - are scams, plain and simple. Great advice Steve.
