OfflineHi,
You can try to negotiate with your creditors for a repayment plan that you can afford on your own, the issue is that many banks/credit card companies may not have any in-house programs, or they may refer you out to other agencies. Also, many want to try and get the most out of you they can and will ignore the fact you are trying to work on more accounts than just that one.
In bankruptcy you do have the protection of the courts and payments through the Trustee.
You can try to work this out on your own, and if you do not get the results you want or can live with, speak to a bankruptcy attorney and get their advice and see what chapter of bankruptcy you qualify for and if that will work for you.
Regards,
Jon

I owe around $13,000-$14,000 in credit card debt. I have fought hard to get it down to this amount and decided to get help from debt consolidation only to find scam after scam.
Can you tell me should I consider chapter 13 or should i myself try to negotiate with these creditors. I was told I could do it myself, or hire an legitimate attorney if there is one?
