Carole,  I am sorry to hear of your loss and the struggles you are experiencing.

From what you have stated you have done so far, you are on the right path and doing the right things.

Depending on the other bills/debts you have you may want to look at a Debt Management Plan with a third party company to assist you in setting up a repayment plan.

You mentioned a mortgage, and that you could not afford it at one time so I assume you have a house/property.  If there is equity in this property and have you considered selling it? I understand that for most people this is a last resort, but if the house is costing you a lot to maintain, selling it is a way of not just paying off the debts/bills, but reducing your living expenses.

You also may want to consider taking in a lodger or boarder to assist in the housing bills and allow you more surplus income to pay off the debts; I understand allowing someone to reside with you may not be something you want to consider.

Lastly, can a family member or friend assist you?  If they can pay off the debt, you can repay them at a rate and pace you can afford.

I hope this advice and information helps and let me know how you get on.

Jon

MY NAME IS CAROLEAND HERE IS MY STORY.MY HUSBAND PASSED AWAY LAST YEAR AND I WAS LEFT WITH NO INSURANCE OF ANY KIND. HE DID NOT BELIEVE IN INSURANCE. HE THOUGHT THEY WERE ALL FRAUDS OR SCAMMERS.

NOW I AM A LOW INCOME SENIOR WHO COLLECTS THREE CANADIAN PENSION CHEQUES TOTALLING $1,500 PER MONTH. I VERY STUPDILLY GOT A CAPITAL ONE CREDIT CARD WITH A CREDIT LIMIT OF ONLY $1,000.WELL ONE THING AFTER ANOTHER MY CARD NOW IS $2,OOO AND I WILL TELL YOU WHY. I MISSED A FEW MONTHS PAYMENTS BECAUSE I WENT TO ANOTHER COMPANY FOR HELP.

I WAS WITH A FINANCIAL COMPANY AT THAT TIME COULD NOT AFFORDF THE MORTGAGE THAT I WAS PAYING,SO ENTER THIS NEW COMPANY I WENT TO.

NOW THEY REFINANCED MY  MORTGAGE BUT DID NOT PAY OFF MY TWO SMALL BILLS WHICH THEY SAIS THAT THEY WOULD.SO HERE I AM STILL WITH MY TWO BILLS. WOULD I STILL BE ABLE TO GO AFTER THAT COMPANY TO PAY OFF MY BILLS. AS I SAID I HAVE A CREDIT CARD AND A CREAMATION BILL TO A FUNERAL HOME THAT IS WORTH $2,800. OUT OF THAT $1,500 I PAY MY LIVING EXPENSES (LIKE MY HYDRO. OIL FOR HEATING MY HOME MY PHONE BILL AND PAYING FOR MY COMPUTER, ETC) PLUS BUYING MY GROCERIES.

I AM LEFT WITH VERY LITTLE TO LIVE ON. I HAVE LOOKED FOR HELP EVERY WHERE ON THE COMPUTER BUT MY PROBLEM IS WITH THE LITTLE I HAVE LEFT AT THE END OF THE MONTH I CANNOT AFFORD ANY FEES OR MONEY TO A DEBT RELATED COMPANY TO HELP ME OUT.

I HAVE SENT TWO LETTERS TO CAPITAL ONE CARD,ONE TELLING THEM TO STOP CALLING ME AND THEY HAVE AND THE SECOND TO FULLY EXPLAIN MY FINANCIAL SITUATION AND SAYING THAT I WILL WORK WITH THEM IF THEY WILL WORK WITH ME.

I ALSO ASKED TO HAVE MY CARD CANCELLED HAVE M INTEREST RATES LOWERED,IF POSSIBLE AND TO QUIT PUTTING ON MY CARD THE OVERDRAFT AMOUNT OF $29.95 PER MONTH, THAT IS WHAT IS KILLING ME,THAT AMOUNT EVERY MONTH. WELL THAT IS MY STORY.IS THERE ANY HELP FOR ME. I CAN MAYBE PAY MY CARD ONLY ABOUT $50.00 PER MONTH.PLEASE EMAIL ME BACK WITH A RESPONSE ASAP.

THANK YOU.
