Carole,

Bankruptcy is always an option to be relieved of the debts and the stress associated with them.

You could consider just making token payments of a dollar a month as there is very little your creditors can do based on your situation; just receiving pensions, etc. However they may still phone for payments and in general make life stressful.

Do you own your home?  If so that can be a deciding factor in going bankrupt or just making token payments.

If you don't own your home and can get the bankruptcy taken care of for free, it doesn't matter what the amount of debt is as it is all relative to the person going bankrupt.

$6000 may not seem like a lot to one person, but feels like $600,000 to another.

You also may want to explore if there are any other social benefits you may be eligible to receive.

I hope this helps in some way.

Jon

I AM A LOW INCOME SENIOR WHO LIVES IN CANADA AND I COLLECT THREE SMALL PENSION CHEQUES THROUGH THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT. THE CHECKS TOTALL APPROX.$1,522.PER MONTH.AFTER ALL MY LIVING EXPENSES AND MY FOOD FOR THE MONTH ARE TAKEN OUT I MAY HAVE AROUND $150 PER MONTH TO LIVE ON.

I HAVE ONLY TWO SMALL BILLS.ONE IS A CAPITAL ONE CARD THAT IS AROUND $2,000 AND THE OTHER IS A FUNERA L BILL FOR MY HUSBANDS CREAMATION AFTER HE PASSED AWAY LAST YEAR.

NOW I KNOW THAT THIS NOT A LOT OF DEBT BUT IT IS STILL MY DEBT.NOW BECAUSE I BRING IN SUCH A LOW AMOUNT OF MONEY I CANNOT PAY EITHER OF THESE TWO BILLS.THE ONE GOOD THING IN CANADA IS, THE CREDITORS CANNOT TOUCH ANY OF MY PENSIONS.

I HAVE ALLREADY CONTACTED A BANKRUPTCY PLACE BUT THERE AGAIN I CANNOT PAY ANY FEES OR ANYTHING ELSE BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY. THE BANKRUPTCY PEOPLE DID GIVE ME A TOLL FREE NUMBER TO CALL WHERE THEY WILL PROBABLY WAIVE ALL FEES AND CHARGE ME NOTHING.

NOW STARTING THIS JULY 1 IN OUR PROVINCE OF ONTARIO CANADAWE WILL BE COMBINING TWO TAXES TOGETHER,WHICH WILL BE A PROVINCIAL TAX OF 5% AND WHAT WE CALL IN CANADA A GOODS AND SERVICES TAX OF 8% BOTH TOTALLING 13%.THAT 13% WILL BE ON EVERYTHING THAT WE WILL BE USING (LIKE GAS FOR THE CAR,OUR HYDRO FOR OUR HOMES, A HAIRCUT ANY HEAT FOR OUR HOMES) DO YOU GET THE PICTURE.

BECAUSE I AM ON SUCH A LOW INCOME I MAY HAVE TO GIVE UP MY HOME, BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD THE EXTRA MONEY. SO I WILL HAVE TO MAKE SOME BIG DECISIONS IN THE COMING MONTHS.

NOW THAT I HAVE EXPLAINED MY SITUATION SHOULD I REALLY GO  BANKRUPT FOR A LITTLE AMOUNT OF APPROX.$6,000.00.THANK YOU AND PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR ANSWER ASAP .
