Michelle,
Rebuilding credit is easy and I wish I could turn back time so you could have done this seven years ago.
After a credit bump you need to get right back into the credit game. otherwise your credit report ends on a bad note and there is no new good information to score you on. After bankruptcy a lot of people become credit adverse and shy away from getting credit. That's a mistake.
What you need to do is go out and get at least two secured credit cards. You will have to put up a deposit that will earn interest and create a credit line for you with the companies. Make sure the card is a Visa or MasterCard and reports to all three credit bureaus.Â
Use the card on a regular basis and pay the bill off in full each month. never let your balance get above 40% of your credit limit.
You will soon start to see your scores rise and you can't be turned down for the cards.
If you have not done so, please get a copy of your consolidated credit report and make sure that all the items that were included in your bankruptcy are reported as included. We don't want any negative item lingering open if it was included.
If you do all of this now with the secured cards and consolidated credit report your credit will be in much better shape by August.

I filed bankruptcy almost 7 years ago and I have yet to establish a good credit standing. I am unable to get any forms of credit lines to rebuild my credit and constantly being denied by everyone is very disheartening. What can I do to help rebuild my credit. I'm not frivolous with my money like I used to be and have come to learn to manage my money very well these days. My townhome lease is up at the end of August and I would like to do this on my own, without a roommate as a credit back up. Both of our names are onthe lease and we have never been late on rent.
Can you offer any assistance as to what I can do to make myself look responsible in the communities eyes although my credit makes it seem as though I am not? Even if I make the amount that is required to live in an apartment complex, will I still be turned down because of my poor credit?
