OfflineI understand it is a difficult time and since you did not mention if you are located in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland, I am going to assume ROI.
Many people in Ireland are experiencing the same financial difficulties. Your options as to what you can do depends on a few factors such as if there is property involved with the business, you mentioned a shop. Also, if you own personal property which may have equity.
While you may not want to lose any property, it maybe a solution to clear/settle the debts and start fresh.
Depending on how the debts were set-up, you maybe able to get your creditors to restructure them or work with you until you can find suitable work and set-up some repayment scheme.
The key with any repayment scheme is having a job/wages and being able to offer some sort of payment each month.
Keep me posted as to how you make out.

As a lot of other sole traders, I was a victim of the rescession and not very sound business decisions.
I had a franchise shop, franchised from a person and Spar and could not meet all debt to franchising. We opened on a greenfield site where everything was new and only my shop opened from 9 units in the complex. 700 houses was supposed to be developed and even that didn't materialise.
After 6-7 months of trading a sports betting shop opened but did'nt contribute towards my footfall.
The franchiser kept making promises of delivering an off-licence and that I should not worry bout franchise fees as I can pay it back in the term of contract.
I blindly believed him and got further into debt, for the hope that sales will pick up once we get the off-licence trade in.
Well to my surprise the franchiser kicked me out on terms of contract breach.
I am now in debt with a lot of creditors and do not wish to declare bankrupt as such, but are looking for advice on how not to loose any possesions and house and to come to an agreement with debtors.
I cannot afford to pay back all amounts and are looking to consilidate matter for more affordable payback with protection.
I am still paying for hire- purchase lease agreements that franchiser said he would take over. It's 2 months later, I am still jobless and still making payments to these leases. I am running completely dry on any money.
What do I need to do from here?
