A debt management plan is a consolidated debt repayment plan that may stop or eliminate debt collection calls, reduce your monthly payments and/or reduce the interest rate you are paying.

Credit counselors are paid by creditors for collecting money from you. They do not negotiate on your behalf but instead pass on special terms to you when you enroll. You may be able to get the same or better terms by contacting your creditors directly. You should not hesitate in contacting your creditors and asking about their internal hardship programs.
