More Wisconsin residents are being sued for failing to pay their credit card bills and other debts.

Court records show the number of lawsuits involving debts of $5,000 or more increased by 49 percent last year. They are on track to jump another 16 percent this year.

In some places, the number is growing even faster.

Waukesha County had more large claim money judgment lawsuits filed by September than in all of last year. Many were for failure to pay credit card debt.
