Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX, 2017 : In an attempt to pay off this loan with assistance from a family member, I called to get my balance. It was quoted as {$8300.00}. I questioned the balance because I am being garnished for this debt. I was advised by XXXX XXXX of GC Services that I could see my debt and payments by going to I had NO knowledge of this site before being given this information. Upon going to that site, my report indicated the balance as {$6400.00}. A payment of {$6400.00} was made. There was still an unposted garnishment payment. I was then told there was a balance of {$1100.00}. That amount was then paid. Another payment was made. It seems their ” collection costs ” have amounted to over {$2000.00} on this balance. It never gets smaller. Every day they add fees and charges on claiming ‘THIS IS YOUR DEBT AND FEES ARE CHARGED DAILY UNTIL IT IS PAID IN FULL. ” There is no way to get to {$0.00} with this company. The stress has affected my health. Prior to going into garnishment I was making small payments until a medical situation caused me to go into default. I submitted documentation to this company more than 4 times via certified mail. Every time I submitted something, they wanted something else. Then they decided to serve a garnishment. The more I asked how much do they charge in collection fees, the more they blew me off. I was told their fees are NOT included in my report of payments received yet they sent me the same info with nothing indicating they charge a separate fee and the percentage of that fee. I need these people out my life asap. The Dept. of Ed. needs to look into the companies they are using as servicing agents and the amount they are charging consumers. It ‘s no wonder people remain unemployed and do not become home owners. The fear is there! I feel their collection tactics are unacceptable as is the amount they are charging to collect these debts.
