Consumer Complaint: Navient allows the payee to make payments online, but does not offer the option to complete a payoff online. I phoned in and asked the customer service agent if I could pay off one of the loans through them and she said yes. She processed my payment and told me that the loan was paid off. I received a confirmation number and email reflecting that payment. When I went back online to see if my account updated to reflect the pay off. This was not the case, the monies had been spread over all my loans. If the agent does n’t have the authority to take a payoff they should not tell the payee this and take the payment online.
I have put in a request to Navient to either put my payment toward the loan that I requested to pay off or refund my monies. I should n’t have to ask this. The option should be available already. Every effort should be made to help/allow the student to payoff these loans.
Navient has predatory loan management practices. The site is setup to discourage payoff by requiring mail in of pay off and choosing to only allow the student the option to make a payment ahead and the loan continues to accrue interest. Navient or any other loan servicing agent should NOT be allowed to offer consolidation that requires a student to have to allow them to apply 10 years of interest on the entire loan just to have one loan. This is worse than the housing crisis.
If you have to mail in a payoff, the payee continues to accrue interest on that loan awaiting the payment to be received. The payee should be able to make payoffs online in real time. Why is Navient allowed to not offer payoff online?
Why is the customer service number not located on the front page? why does the payee have to search for a contact number?
