Consumer Complaint: I am a card holder and have been one for some time. I have never experienced a problem until this month when one of your practices, obviously designed to deceive customers and trick them into late payments for which you receive additional fee benefits, caught me too.
The due date remains constant but cycle dates change which misrepresents when obligations are due and credited. My due date is the 6th. I made it on the 8th and you credited it to the month prior to the 6th and since I thought my payment was made I tendered no additional payments until I received a call notifying me my payment for XXXX was applied as an extra payment to a former cycle making me late.

The customer service rep was nice and required me to make a double payment immediately.

You should not be allowed to arbitrarily apply payments to enhance your fee income. I also believe the double payment was arbitrary, unnecessary and saddled me with an additional amount due, which I did, but it I believe it is overkill.

I have had this care for a long time and have a balance now because I am doing some home improvements. I plan on paying it off in the next couple of months and will likely close out this relationship because of this unethical and possibly illegal practice.

I will be sending this complaint to the Office of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in the hope that it will open an investigation and possibly to force you to return to fair credit practices. I also wonder how many other consumers have suffered because of this practice.
