Consumer Complaint: I XXXX college on XXXX XXXX with a XXXX and two student loans to pay of. I got married last year ( XXXX XXXX ) and my husband is an XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. We are currently stationed XXXX and because of the XXXX agreement that XXXX and the USA have- this does not allow many jobs for military dependents such as myself. I have not had any employment since I got here and over the last year we have been paying off my school loans ( over {$40000.00} in total ) with only my husband ‘s income. We contacted the lending institutions to see if any options were available for lower interest rates for service members and their families, but one institution, Navient ( formerly XXXX XXXX XXXX, refused to aid us in any way, even after explaining our situation, on the basis that I am not the service member. The interest rate on this loan is almost 10 % .and we are paying both loans off of just my husband ‘s income. We recently almost emptied out our savings in order to get the loan with Navient to a more reasonable level ; With the dollar amount the loan had been at, and the interest rate, we were not gaining any ground on the loan with just the minimum payment, it actually went up. Why was the total loan amount increasing even while always making payments on time?
