Consumer Complaint: My daughter and I lived with XXXX XXXX in XXXX, Tn for over 5 years. In XXXX 2017, I ended up moving back home with my parents to help them financially until my dad was able to get his XXXX. My deposit when I moved in was {$550.00} which was also my rent amount every month. I am a single mom with one income no child support who struggled to make it but I always paid my rent. There were times that I was late paying it but always paid it before the XXXX of the month which is consider the eviction date. So they would tack on the late fees of {$50.00} a month which is fine because that was in the lease, I would pay over the amount of my rent ( {$550.00} ) when I had the extra to pay my late fees. I never caused any trouble at my apt . I never had any complaints from them or my neighbors, I never complained to them about anything, in the 5 years I lived with them I only called them 2 or 3 times to come fix things because I would do it my self. The ladies that run the office at XXXX have never been the friendliest people to encounter, they are usually rude and short ( not just to me, but everyone, I have had people tell me they walked out of there office before even looking at any properties because they were so rude ).
So my complaint and issue with them is, the guy told me on my exit inspection that my apartment looked great and I would get my full deposit back, which I knew I would not because I had some late fees that I owed. They sent me a letter a couple months later stating that I owe {$580.00}. I called them asking how in the world do I owe that much when you still have my deposit of {$550.00}. They stated that they can not use my deposit toward my late fees, which makes no sense what so ever. I basically only owe them {$30.00} but they wanted me to bring in {$580.00} and them turnaround and mail me my deposit back. I told them I would bring the {$30.00} to them but never got around to it because the last few months have been hard as my dad has been sick in and out of the doctors and hospitals, my mom is about to have XXXX, just a lot going on. They have now turned me over to collections ( Rent Debt Automated Collections ) but in the amount of {$780.00}, I am not paying that when they still have my {$550.00} deposit and I technically only owe them {$30.00}. I will gladly drop off {$30.00} to them. The collection amount is incorrect and should not be on my report for that amount.
