Consumer Complaint: I sold my house in XXXX XXXX, and paid all the utilities in full. That was almost 2 1/2 years ago. On XXXX XXXX XXXX I was forwarded a collection letter asking for an additional {$180.00}, for which I had no clue who the creditor was or why. The collection letter was dated XXXX XXXX, XXXX, but sent to a very old address, and somehow, almost 3 weeks later, I received the collection letter. I asked the collection co to the details of the bill ( aka validation of the debt ), and gave them my correct address. On or about XXXX XXXX XXXX, I received a statement, and although I did n’t believe the debt was owed, I agreed to pay it, providing that no adverse reporting to the credit bureaus were made. The rep assured me that it had n’t, and that they do not report. I asked if I can call back after I verify my reports. I did verify my report a couple of days later, there was no adverse reporting, so I called the collection company to pay the ( disputed ) debt. I was then told that the day after I called to inquire about the debt, which was within a few days of reviewing the validated ( yet disputed ) debt, that they inadvertently reported negative info to the reporting agencies. I asked to be transferred to a supervisor. Her name is XXXX. She refused to acknowledge the FCRA, which provides me time to request and review an unknown debt. She insisted on NOT removing the adverse and premature reporting, stating that she is going by the date of collection letter which was XXXX XXXX, which I received XXXX XXXX, and the validation was received XXXX XXXX. She is wrong and violated my rights, and the law. I have since paid the bill, in full, and wrote letters to the credit reporting agencies with copies of the dated letters.
