Consumer Complaint: Navient is committing the same offenses they committed against other student load borrowers against my niece and I. These are the same offenses for which they are currently being sued by CFPB ; failing to work with students having problems paying their loans, failing to apprise borrowers of available options, including income based payments ; and, steering students to forebearance as opposed to other options.
Navient reported negative information to the credit bureaus stating that I was 60 days delinquent paying my student loan. They did this in an attempt to bully me into paying my nieces student loan, rather than work with my niece by temporarily reducing her monthly payments to an amount that she is currently able to afford. Ignoring my nieces repeated requests, Navient instead began harassing me and demanding that I begin making the payments. Although my niece was experiencing temporary financial issues, she was still willing to pay reduced payments to Navient until she was able to make her normal payments. Navient repeatedly refused my nieces request and demanded that I begin making the payments to the loan. In an attempt to get me to begin paying my nieces monthly payments, Navient was rude, disrespectful and resorted to bullying and threats of filing adverse information in my credit report. Navient also called my home daily and at unreasonable times of the day and night. In response to my demand that they not call my home anymore, they responded that they will continue calling me until I begin making payments on my loan. After I was not moved by their threats, on XX/XX/XXXX Navient retroactivity granted my niece a forbearance period from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX, the period of time that my niece made reduced payments to her loan. Though, this retroactive forbearance does not remedy the problem of my nieces need to have her monthly payments amended to an affordable amount in the upcoming months. Navient still reported my alleged 60-day delinquency to the credit bureaus for that period.
