Phone call came from 7252232244 (Nevada) on my cell phone. “Debt Center of America”… A very fast talking Indian man was trying to say I had school loan debt over 5 thousand. I said yes, he said it was from the “department” and would set up school loan forgiveness.
He asked for my email, I gave it; but while talking I said, you know, my total is more like 50 thousand not 5,000, then he said something strange, like it is just an example. So then he asked for my birthday and I said, No. He said he needed it, I said send me an email with what you have; he said he could not do so and gave me this number, promising they were not a “scam” and the other number was 702.749.4288 and that he would pick up.
Well, I got online and googled “Debt Center of America” and found a “scam for debt loans, getting your information and basically stealing your payments”. So, I told the guy, I will call you back and he said, okay, be sure to call back on the direct number I gave you and I will answer. I hung up and never called back. I believe this is a total scam. I never went any farther than giving my email address. Hopefully that was not to far either. :0(
Consumer Action Taken:
I told him I would call back at the other number listed. I didn’t; I did not let the phone conversation get farther than my email address. I did not give any other personal information.
