I received a call from a place called E-State and they said they were collecting on a debt that I had incurred in 2013. It was a payday loan (which I don’t even remember) and they said I owed them $5500.00, but if I were to pay it today they would drop it to 800.00. They also said that if I didn’t pay it before 1:15p.m that day they were going to have me arrested for grand larceny and some other charges. They claimed that I wrote them a check for the original amount due of 600.00 and some change and then closed the account at my bank. So they said that was the same as stealing and that by my actions I was trying to steal from them. Can they do this? Have I committed some crime that I’m not even aware of and is there a statue of limitations on this, since she said it was back in 2013? Thank you very much for your advice in case something like this ever happens again.
Consumer Action Taken:
They scared me so bad with the threat of the police coming to pick me up with 2 hours, that I took around $800.00 to Wal-Mart’s Money Center and paid them. I had to send it to E-State Legal Holdings by money gram and then call Fed. Exon Code and give them the reference number from E-State Legal Holdings. The telephone number to Fed. Exon Code is 844-882-7632, in case this would help. If you need the account number or reference number that E-State Legal Holdings, I can provide you with that also. I also have the agent’s name. Please let me know what, if anything you find out. I would hate for this to happen to someone else.
