Consumer Complaint: I am being asked to pay a medical debt of {$1500.00} for services that incurred when I was a minor ( XX/XX/XXXX – XX/XX/XXXX ). I didn’t sign any paperwork stating that I would be financially responsible for these services because as a minor it would be illegal for me to do so.

My Mother did sign the paperwork stating she would be financially responsible for the services I were to receive.

She unfortunately did not remain true to her word and left the services unpaid. Fast forward to XX/XX/XXXX my mother received a phone call stating that ” she had not been receiving statements over the past 2 years because we changed systems. I explained that she has an outstanding balance but that her account is not in collections due to the fact she has not received statements. she said that she is unemployed currently but she agreed to do $ XXXX monthly towards her account sent statement today-tw ” XX/XX/XXXX ” Statement was returned today as undeliverable although she verified her address before I sent it. I tried calling but her number is now disconnected. if she does not make payment by next billing I will call again or she will go to XXXX. — XXXX ” XX/XX/XXXX ” XXXX has not made payment since XXXX. Tried calling, no answer. Send to TekCollect – XXXX ” So now this debt has been put on my credit and has been harming my credit score even though it clearly shouldn’t.

I’ve talked to the business where I received the services ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ) as a minor and they insist that since I’m of legal age now I owe the debt.

I also tried to dispute it with the collection agency ( TEK COLLECT ) and they deemed the debt to rightfully belong to me instead of my mother.

I firmly believe that this is not my debt but my mothers and I want to make sure this gets removed from my credit report and added to hers. My mother also believes this and has tried to contact the business where the services were rendered to get the debt transferred to her but – they refused to comply and insisted that she could make payments but the debt would remain under her daughter name and social.

Also my mother and I share a similar name but you can clearly read that the signatures on all the paperwork is her name and not mine – and the dates when it was signed would have been when I was a minor.
