Consumer Statement:

The contact names kept changing. I can no longer get into my ‘portal’ to get printouts of all documentation. The temporary password(s) do not work. The phone numbers provided do not work.

I received an offer to help relieve my debt by Macklock National Credit. I discussed my debt and how I could no longer afford to pay expected payments.

I was never late nor had I stopped paying. Macklock assured me they could help. I provided them a list of four accounts. We discussed a payment plan and how they could help get my credit rating up.

Total debt was $9,491 with payments of $214.49 for 19 months. I provided copies of my driver’s license, routing number and bank account number for automatic drafts.

As requested, I sent threatening letters to Macklock. I thought all was well until I was served with papers and got sued for Discover!

They stated ‘this has never happened before’ and I could contact their lawyers for assistance in resolving this matter. They said I did not need to go to court, they would handle the problem. They then provided me with their lawyer.

Both stated that Discover couldn’t do anything because I am on a fixed income and do not work (age-80). I am terrified that I am going to be picked up for failure to appear in court. They returned around $545 for an estimated fee amount for Discover but I also received a letter stating RBFCU has written-off my debt which means I will get a 1099 next year and have to pay taxes on this. They have done nothing for me other than take my money and caused extreme stress. I am embarrassed and ashamed of this situation.

I am now reading online that this is a regular issue with them and how I have been scammed. The person I had been in contact with Jacob T the majority of the time is no longer at the given number. It is now Jason Oram who does not answer any of my calls or emails.
