Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Consumer Consent Provided to Share Complaint: Consent provided

Consumer Complaint: I received a letter from XXXX XXXX XXXX, a debt collection law firm in XXXX, Virginia. They claim I still owe BANK OF AMERICA {$4400.00} for a debt that was charged-off 9 years ago. The statute of limitations for debt, in Virginia, is 6 years. this is the second letter I have received from this law firm, the last one was in XXXX. I am sure this is probably a scam being perpetrated by either Bank of America or XXXX XXXX XXXX. I want this matter resolved, because I do not owe this money.
Also, if the debt were still active, it would show as a negative entry on my credit record. What is my legal recourse on this matter? Your help will be greatly appreciated.
