Do I Need All My Transcripts to Go to a New College?

Written by Steve Rhode

Question:

Dear Steve,

I’m in a huge dilemma… I attended a community college in fall 2010 to spring 2011… I then transferred to a private university (Millikin University) from the fall of 2011 to spring 2012 and dropped out (young and foolish) I ended up attended Northwest Missouri State in 2013 to 2014. Decided to join the navy that year so I didn’t finish…. Decided today 2018 to finish what I started, but the private institution won’t release my transcripts to anybody without paying them the $2000 and they won’t accept a payment plan. They told me they need the money in full.

Could I use the same method as I did with Northwest Missouri State and just use my community college transcripts to transfer to another college even if that means starting over with my credits?

Answer:

Dear Dshawn,

There is nothing that would prevent you from doing that, just understand you won’t get credit for the classes without a transcript.
