Consumer Complaint: My wife and I had a debt from 2011 which we do not dispute. It didn’t show up on our credit report when we were paying off all of our debt to improve our credit score. We submitted an offer on a new house and it was accepted. The title company states there is a debt owing to Bank of America, which we need to resolve in the closing of our new house. The title company sent a request for payoff, and was denied. They were instructed to send a fax in order to appeal the decision. So to be clear, we are trying to satisfy the debt and have been denied. We need to appeal their decision in order to move forward on our home loan. I personally called Bank of America in order to resolve the issue and was told it was being reviewed by legal and that ” they do not have a phone number for me to contact them and ask why we can’t pay the debt ”. This appears to be very dishonest and, quite frankly, shady business practice. If the home loan falls apart due to Bank of America not allowing us to pay our debt, I will be very upset. My opinion is that the debt has been discharged, and Bank of America legal team is trying to find a way to re-instate the loan. If they don’t have a phone number for me to reach out to them, how am I supposed to figure out what is going on in the process? They just keep telling everyone, ” It is being reviewed by our legal team ”. This is unacceptable behavior!
