Consumer Complaint: Choice Recovery has acted deceptively with respect to my account and my wife ‘s, attempting to collect on a debt that is already paid, and filing false reports with credit agencies. They accepted referral of a debt that we were actively disputing with the original creditor. We were working with a consumer hotline ( the XXXX XXXX ) that had taken our case and was negotiating with the original creditor, who had been misleading in their business practices, but they aggressively referred it to collections rather than work with the hotline. As a result of the threat of collections, we paid the debt to the original creditor ( under duress ) in full on XX/XX/XXXX for both accounts. However, Choice continued to contact us claiming we owed the debt. On XX/XX/XXXX, weeks after the debt was settled, they falsely reported it to credit agencies as unpaid. This is despite the fact that they claim in letters that they will not report debts to credit agencies if they are paid within 31 days of the first contact, as this one was.
