Consumer Complaint: In late XX/XX/XXXXor early XX/XX/XXXX, I opened a visa credit card with Wells Fargo bank with a {$500.00} credit limit. I used it and paid minimum payments each month. Approximately three years later, I learned that the bank had increased the interest on the card such that my regular payments were not lowering the amount and in fact it was increasing. I contacted the bank and asked for the interest to be lowered so I could pay the card off and was refused. By this time, I had already paid well over the amount I ever charged on the card. As such, I decided to make no further payments and shredded the card. I have no recollection of receiving further statements or notification that the account was being sent to collections, but in XX/XX/XXXXI was notified by XXXX that they had purchased by debt from Wells Fargo and that I now owed them {$2500.00}. I received several harrassing messages from XXXX XXXX and, thereafter, I was served with papers notifying me that I was being sued by XXXX. I appeared in court on the date set forth on the papers only to be told that the court date had been changed and that the judge had ruled in favor of XXXX. Last week, my bank account at XXXX was levied and XXXX will take everything that was in it ( {$500.00} ) on XX/XX/XXXX. I should have been notified that the court date with XXXX had been changed. I also question whether or not it is legal to take a {$500.00} debt ( or even a {$2500.00} debt ) and turn it into {$6000.00} by filing in Court. Please help. I would like to get out from under this debt, but can’t afford {$6000.00} and especially can’t afford to have them take everything in my bank account that I need to live on. Thanks.
