Consumer Complaint: I recently got married and went to my husbands bank to be put on his checking account ( XX/XX/XXXX ) so they pulled my credit and told me I couldn’t get onto his account because I had a collection on there from US Bank.
I was confused as to why I had a collection because I had closed my accounts there almost a year ago, so I called US Bank ( XXXX @ XXXX ) and they said they sent me to collections due to a balance on my checking account. I had no idea that I had a balance on my checking account and when the account was closed no one told me that I had an outstanding balance to pay. Not only that but I guess they had an old address on file that I haven’t lived at for over a year and were sending information and statements to that address. I moved into my new address XXXX of XXXX and had no idea these letters were being sent to my old address. Nobody called me or reached out to me in any other way so how was I supposed to know that I had an outstanding balance? The only way I was even brought aware of this debt was because I got married and tried to get on my husbands checking account. US Bank told me it was my fault that I didn’t give them the new address ( the account was closed or wasn’t being used so why would I give them my new address? ). The collection company XXXX XXXX said that they couldn’t help me either and I ended up paying the debt amount that was around {$51.00} …
