Consumer Complaint: Dear CFPB, I am requiring your assistance in resolving a fraudulent attempt to collect a debt not owed. This letter is in no part, an admission of debt owed and may not be used against me at any point. I had an account with XXXX XXXX water services and cancelled service in or around XX/XX/2017. I was preparing for a move across the country in XX/XX/XXXX. I had already had plenty of water and told them to cancel billing upon making my last payment. I had them collect my water jugs before making my trek across the country in XX/XX/XXXX. I never received a letter outlining the reasoning for this collection of the debt nor a statement of it’s validity. However, if I did receive such, my account records would reflect no debt ever existed. Since noticing this negative remark on my credit report, I’ve tried to resolve this matter with the collections company. I’ve received harassment and endless calls from various numbers. The nefarious manner in which these criminals have attempted to collect a debt not owed has been extremely suspect.
