Consumer Complaint: In 2006, I applied for a student loan of {$5000.00} ( for one semester ) at XXXX. I had to do the same the next semester for another {$5000.00}. Sallie Mae picked up the loan and when repayment was due, they wanted $ XXXX monthly. I work in retail and when you have a vehicle note and rent, that’s just not possible. I spoke with Sallie Mae on many different occassion and was told my only option was forebarence or deferment. So, I did that because I couldn’t afford the $ XXXX monthly. About 4 years ago, Sallie Mae sold my loan to Navient. Same story here, $ 300-400 monthly. Finally, after digging around on their website, I found that I could apply for Income Based Repayment. My notes were supposed to be around {$50.00} for each loan ( 2 ), totaling $ XXXX monthly. I have faithfully paid that for about 3 years. Then suddenly my unsubsized loan has jumped to {$94.00} a month with no explanation. My balance has not moved and I now owe over {$15000.00} because of interest and the forbearance and deferements that I was told I needed to use because I could not pay the $ XXXX monthly. All of my info has been transferred from the FSA website with my tax info included. I have paid thousands to Sallie Mae and Navient, only to still owe more than my original loan.
