Consumer Complaint: The debt collection company Harris and Harris out of Illinois was given a medical account from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX in attempt to collection that debt from me. The total amount due was {$710.00}. On XX/XX/XXXX I contact Harris and Harris negotiated a settlement of this debt at a 20 % discount if I paid it over the phone with them immediately. Which I agreed to, gave them my credit card information and paid the negotiated amount of {$570.00} and was told that account with them was settled and would be closed out.
Since the XX/XX/XXXX date I’ve received 3 different invoices from Harris and Harris stating my outstanding balance with them is {$140.00} ( the 20 % discount amount ). I’ve called them numerous times about the outstanding balance being inaccurate, each time they confirm that the account is settled but was ” not properly closed out ”. That is why I am still getting invoices. I also continue to ask about credit reporting and they said No, this account is settled so it would not be reported.
Fast forward now to today XX/XX/XXXX, I received an alert on my credit report stating that my first debt collection account has appeared from Harris and Harris on my report showing outstanding balance of the {$140.00}. I again called Harris and Harris today and the assure me the account has been settled as of XX/XX/2018 but wasn’t properly closed out. The same message they’ve been giving me since it was paid.
I am at my wits end because I am still getting invoiced, now it is on my credit report ( which I am disputing ) but I can not get Harris and Harris to properly handle this matter and close out my account. I’ve attached the invoice details, and a copy of the line item from my credit card statement showing payment on XX/XX/18.
