Consumer Complaint: I got a letter two days ago from American Express ( two addressed were on the letter : XXXX, NJ was on the letterhead and XXXX XXXX, FL was on the bottom ), stating I owed {$37000.00}. I have not had an American Express account for many many years. I have not had any communication with AE for years and my credit reports do not provide any evidence of it. I could not get an account now if I tried since a few years ago I got health issues and would certainly not be approved for any credit.
The statute of limitations for any earlier amounts would have been way beyond any collection efforts and this threat to avoid collection activities is unethical and illegal. I will be sending them a certified letter, but would like this notes and followed up for company censure.
