Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX contacted my work number on Wednesday, XX/XX/2018. As I was off, they left a voicemail stating that if I did not respond immediately, they would be starting a verification of employment. I got the voicemail today ( XX/XX/2018 ), and called back immediately and left a message advising that I would like to make a payment arrangement of low monthly payments, as I was trying to get involved with a debt consolidation program. I received a return call from a Ms. XXXX or XXXX, but I had missed the call. I called back, and offered the same information I had left in my message. This rep rudely stated that she had already started the verification of employment process, because I did not call back yesterday. I told her I was not at work, and therefore would not have been able to call back, as I did not get the message until today. She told me they were going to start garnishing my wages, unless I paid the {$1300.00} I owed XXXX right away, or paid over {$170.00} bi-weekly. When I said I couldn’t do either of those things, and again offered {$100.00} per month, she said she was putting me as ” refuse to pay ”, and would be garnishing my wages. When I cited FDCPA, she stated that they are not held to the FDCPA laws. I tried to explain that I was trying to find a debt consolidation program, and she said it wouldn’t stop the garnishment. Her bullying and scare tactics caused me to have an XXXX XXXX, and had me in tears, because I can not afford to have money taken out of my paycheck.
