Consumer Complaint: I received a XXXX XXXX alert at the beginning of XXXX notifying me of a medical debt collection from Commonwealth Financial. First, I never received any notification of a debt owed – not a call, email, or mail from the alleged original creditor nor Commonwealth Financial ; this is a clear violation of FCRA. Secondly, I researched the claim and found the name of the original creditor – one I had never heard of – alongside a date that backed to 2014. I made all attempts to try to contact the original creditor, but they do not seem to exist. Most phone lines were out of order, and one that worked went to a hospital – not the company listed. No one could find records of this supposed owed debt. This fraudulent action dropped my credit score drastically in the middle of the home buying process ; in addition, other lenders closed their accounts with me as a result. XXXX has removed this fraudulent claim from my credit report, but damage has already been done. I intend to seek legal action ; it appears there are already lawsuits against this company, whats another one? My fear is that others are paying fraudulent debts to make it go away thinking that theres a chance it may be legitimate.
