Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Consumer Complaint: Approximately one year ago, I received a loan check in the mail in the amount of {$1200.00} from XXXX XXXX of XXXX, Tx. As I was struggling at the time, I went to a bank and cashed it. After spending {$90.00} that same day, I got cold feet and changed my mind ; I decided to return the remaining {$1100.00} to XXXX XXXX the next day. The following day, I did that, handing their rep {$1100.00}. I told him Id pay the remaining {$90.00} the next day. He told me that there would be an additional interest charge of {$30.00} so I would need to bring a total of {$120.00} to satisfy the loan. I agreed to do that. When I returned to their office the next day and handed the rep the {$120.00}, he told me that I would now need {$40.00} more. When I reminded him of the amount he told me to bring the previous day, he lied and denied saying it. I became enraged at this obvious attempt of extorting entrapment and refused to pay another penny. I then walked out. So to sum up, I cashed the loan check for {$1200.00} and spent {$90.00} the same day. The next day I returned {$1100.00} to their office and the day after that, I went back yet again to their office to give them the final {$120.00}. Several months passed and I received a letter from XXXX XXXX stating that I owed {$140.00} and needed to make payment to bring my account current. I was in shock and outraged. They knew very well that I spent only {$90.00} of the original {$1200.00} and I returned the remaining amount to them with interest within 72 hours of cashing their loan check. I ripped up the letter and vowed to ignore their criminal behavior. They proceeded to send me several more letters over the course of several months and to this date, now claim that I owe them {$650.00}. Im so physically and mentally sick over their lies and harassment that not only do I wish to have them stop contacting me. I now also would like to file a lawsuit against XXXX XXXX of XXXX, Tx for harassment and fraudulent debt claim. Can I do this?
