Quick Designer Coffee For a Fraction of Starbucks With a Keurig – Love It!

I’m not a big coffee drinker. But every once in a while a nice cup hits the spot. Not sure how you like your coffee but I prefer milk and a couple of sweeteners in mine.

The problem I always ran into in the past with trying to have coffee around was it just never got used. At one time we even had the little portable coffee grinder and the fresh beans but those sat on the shelf forever also. Eventually we gave them away.

When I lived in the UK we bought one of those single cup Tassimo brewers but they made such dinky little cups. I had to use two of the coffee packs to fill one cup. Not very cost effective.

Recently we broke down and bought a Keurig mini brewer and we love it.

There are so many flavors of coffee available at the grocery store that fit this thing and it makes a very full cup. For example, I learned the hard way that if I used the cup on the left in the picture below it would be way too full. I have to use a cup like the one on the right to leave room for milk.

Our Keurig on the counter with variety of flavors we like next to it.

Each cup of coffee costs about $0.55 and the variety of coffee, tea and hot chocolate flavors you can select from is massive. Here is just a sample of the companies that make coffee, tea or hot chocolate packets that fit this machine: Bellaccino Coffee, Cafe Escapes, Caribou Coffee, Coffee people, Diedrich, Donut House Collection, Emeril’s, Gloria Jeans. Green Mountain Coffee, Newman’s Own, Timothy’s, Tully’s, Van Houtte, Bigelow, Celestial Seasonings, Twinings, Ghiradelli.

The packets, or cups actually look like the cups below and come in boxes.

It is so simple to make a cup, pour the water in the machine, put you flavor cup in, your cup underneath and push the button. Within a minute you have a hot cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate. It’s so nice that Pam can have exactly what we crave at the moment. She can make a cup of her pumpkin spice coffee and I can have a light blend cup.

Best yet, no more coffee to go bad sitting around, the machine is small, the selection of beverages is huge and we save much more that running out to Starbucks for an occasional cup. Not only do we save money on the coffee itself but we don’t have to spend the gas or time to go out.

So, I definitely love this machine and it has been a pleasant treat to have in our house.

See some of the others thing I love in the Love It! section of the site.

  1. The Keurig B30 Mini Brewers are great little machines, they take up so little counter space yet provide so much convenience! And if you arent an avid coffee drinker, the practicality of single serve machines are tough to beat.

If you like sweet coffees, give Timothys German Chocolate Cake K-Cups a try. Its got a chocolatey sweet taste but still retains its medium body.

  2. I have to admit, you found the ideal compromise between the expensive cup and canned supermarket coffee.
When my 11yr asked what I thought of mom’s imported beans ($12/lb) I told her I did the math. Mom’s is about 40 cents a cup, to my 10 cents. Her 40 cents still beats the $4 Starbuck habit she used to have.
The selection and convenience of the single brew machines are great.

    • Joe,

It’s a bit more expensive than that percolating pot my folks had on the stove as a kid but then again, I don’t remember them brewing one cup of gingerbread latte. 🙂
